Boating Death of Baton Rouge Resident. - Thursday, March 19, 2009
Sheriff Mike Waguespack reports that on Thursday, March 19, 2009, at 1:17PM, APSO dispatchers received a 911 call concerning a boating related death in Lake Verret. The caller indicated that witnesses would be transporting the victim to Chilli's Landing in Belle River. APSO Patrol deputies, detectives, Pierre Part Fire Department, and Acadian Ambulance Service were dispatched. Upon arrival at the landing first responders identified the victim as Mr. Alfred Perry Jr. 75yoa of 15630 Woodmoss Drive in Baton Rouge, LA.

Witnesses indicated that they last saw Mr. Perry entering a bayou on the east side of Lake Verret. Very shortly thereafter, they noticed Mr. Perry swimming toward his boat, which was still moving. They immediately responded to render assistance but when they arrived Mr. Perry was unresponsive. The witnesses were then joined by two additional boaters who assisted them with getting Mr. Perry into their boat. He was then transported to the landing where he was pronounced dead by Acadian Ambulance attendants.

Deputies later located Mr. Perry's truck and trailer at Joe Dugas's Boat Launch on North Bay Road in Pierre Part. An autopsy will be preformed today at the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office.

This matter remains under investigation.
