Arrest of Albert Williams, 56 YOA, for theft of a firearm and convicted felon in possession of a firearm. - Tuesday, September 29, 2009
Sheriff Mike Waguespack reports that on Monday, September 28, 2009, a Charter Communications worker was working in Labadieville when he found a 40 cal. Glock handgun lying on the ground on Convent Street near St. Philomena Church. The worker immediately notified the Sheriff's Office of his discovery and remained on the scene guarding the pistol until deputies arrived.

Detective Lt. Louis Lambert was nearby and responded to the call. Upon arriving at the location the Charter Communications worker informed Detective Lambert that an African American man was walking by and noticed the pistol on the ground. The man then picked up the gun, placed it in his pocket, and continued walking toward the Labadieville Bridge.

Detective Lambert proceeded toward the bridge and located the man described by the worker. Lambert recognized the man as convicted felon Albert Williams aka “Peter Rabbit” 56 years of age. Detective Lambert immediately stopped Williams at gunpoint and recovered the handgun from his pants pocket.

Williams was arrested for Theft of a Firearm and with being a Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm (due to a drug conviction in 2001). Williams was transported to the Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office Detention Center where he was booked and processed. Bond will be set by a District Judge.

The owner of the handgun later contacted the Sheriff's Office to report that he discovered the gun missing earlier that morning.
