Burglary, Home Invasion, and Drive-By Shooting - Monday, December 21, 2009
Sheriff Mike Waguespack reports the following activity:

On Friday, December 18th, Deputies were called to a residence in the 100 block of Jones Street in Bertrandville concerning a burglary. Upon arriving at the residence deputies learned that earlier that evening the female resident was watching television when she heard a noise in an adjoining room. When she went to investigate she encountered a man standing in her dining room. The man immediately fled through the side door of the residence. The victim described the intruder as a light skin black male wearing eyeglasses.

Deputies later spotted a man fitting the suspect's description on Matthew Street but he fled when deputies attempted to contact him.

A $500 reward is being offered to anyone providing information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for this incident.

On Saturday, December 19th Deputies were called to a residence in the 100 block of Carter Street in Belle Rose concerning a reported home invasion. The complainants, three Mexican men ages 20, 21, and 40, reported that at approximately 1:30AM they were awakened by four black male intruders who forcefully entered the front door of the residence. All four men were dressed in dark clothing and masks and were armed with handguns. While inside the residence, the intruders bound the victims' hands with duct tape and demanded money. When the men failed to respond fast enough, the two younger men were struck in the head and face with the handguns.

After searching the residence the four suspects fled with approximately $900 in cash and a cellular phone belonging to the victims. The two men who were struck with the handguns sustained minor contusions and lacerations.

A $500 reward is being offered to anyone providing information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the persons responsible for this incident.

On Sunday, December 20th, at approximately 5:10PM, Deputies were called to the intersection of Bertrand Street and Douglas Street in Bertrandville concerning a drive-by shooting. Upon arriving at the location deputies learned that Dontay Carter 29 yoa was shot in the leg during the incident. Carter was taken to Assumption Community Hospital by friends.

The preliminary investigation into this matter revealed that minutes earlier a light colored Chevrolet Caprice was observed traveling on Douglas Street near the intersection of Bertrand Street. At one point the passenger, Deantione Truehill, 20yoa, of 383 Hwy 400 in Napoleonville, emerged from the passenger side window and fired approximately five rounds at a group of people standing on Douglas Street, hitting Carter. The car then fled on Bertrand Street, toward Hwy 1.

Witnesses surmised that the shooting may be connected to an argument that occurred earlier that day involving Truehill's sister.

Carter was subsequently transferred to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center for additional medical treatment.

Deputies attempted to locate Truehill and his associates throughout the night but were unsuccessful.

On Monday, December 21st, Detectives questioned Truehill and the driver of the car, Shane Ross 22 yoa of 383 A Hwy 400 in Napoleonville, at the CID Office in Labadieville.

At the conclusion of the interview both subjects were arrested for Attempted First Degree Murder and were transported to the Assumption Parish Detention Center.

Bond will be set by a District Judge.

This matter remains under investigation.
