Arrestee: Steven M. Blaine (27 yoa)
3328 Back Marais Lane,
Napoleonville LA

Charges:
Attempted second degree murder (2 counts)
Aggravated criminal damage to property

On Monday May 10 at approximately 8:15 PM hours, the Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office responded to shots fired call on Coleman and Johnson Street, with one subject being struck.

Upon arrival, Deputies spoke with Curtis and Kelvin Johnson who advised that prior to deputies' arrival, Steven Blaine entered his residence located at 3328 Back Marais Lane, and emerged with a shotgun. Both Johnson subjects stated that as they were walking down Coleman and Johnson Street, Blaine fired one shotgun blast at them, striking Kelvin Johnson multiple times with pellets from the shotgun in his legs, arms, and back. Both subjects advised they then fled into a wooded area and hid until deputies arrived. An inhabited mobile home was also struck with several pellets from the shotgun blast.

During the course of the investigation, it was learned that prior to the shooting, Kelvin Johnson and Steven Blaine had gotten into three separate fistic encounters. After the third encounter, Blaine arrived at his residence, armed himself with his step-father's shotgun, and exited his residence. Blaine then noticed Kelvin and Curtis Johnson walking on Coleman and Johnson Street and shot at both subjects.

Deputies then located Steven Blaine and the shotgun at his residence without further incident. Blaine then gave a full confession to detectives on his role in the shooting. Blaine was charged with two (2) counts of attempted murder and aggravated criminal damage to property. Blaine remains incarcerated at the Assumption Parish Detention Center.
Bond to be set by District Judge.

The shooting victim, Kelvin Johnson, was transported to Assumption Community Hospital Acadian Ambulance Service. He was treated and released.
