Belle Rose Shooting - Friday, July 2, 2010
On Thursday, July 1, 2010, at approximately 10:36PM, APSO Dispatchers received a 911 call concerning a shooting in the 100 block of Greenbriar Street in Belle Rose.

Upon arrival deputies discovered the victim, Kirby Thomas 31 years of age, on the floor inside his residence. Thomas was suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest. Thomas reported that just prior to being shot he was parked in his driveway listening to music. At one point a masked man brandishing a handgun approached the driver's side door in his vehicle. Thomas immediately opened his door and began struggling with the man in an attempt to disarm him. During the struggle the assailant fired approximately three rounds, striking Thomas once in the chest. Thomas fled into his residence and collapsed on the living room. Family members came to his assistance and called 911. Thomas described the suspect as a tall black male, medium build, with a short hair cut.

Thomas was subsequently transported to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance. He is listed in stable condition.

This matter remains under investigation.
