Three Die in Belle River House Fire - Friday, August 6, 2010

At 12:48 a.m. Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office received a 911 call from a neighbor of house fire located at 186 Bayou Tranquille Road in Belle River, Louisiana. Pierre Part/Belle River Fire and Rescue was dispatched to the scene along with neighboring fire departments.

Upon arrival, one of the victims identified as Mitzi Saucier, was in critical condition and transported by Acadian air med to a facility in Baton Rouge. Further information reveals that she has burns over 30% of her body and possible head trauma. She is listed in critical condition.

Upon extinguishing the fire, two (2) victims were located from one of the bedrooms of the residence. It should be noted that the residence was an two-story structure. Both victims were deceased due to severe burns. They were positively identified as follows:

  • Ava Saucier W/F DOB: 08/31/2006- 3 years of age
  • Jacob Saucier W/M DOB: 02/04/2008- 2 years of age

Both victims resided at 8814 Fontenot Way, Port Allen LA. Their parents are identified as Blake and Kristen Saucier. Victim notification was made to both parents by an Assumption Parish Investigator via public service this morning.

A third victim was located within the residence several hours later. This victim had also succumbed to his injuries due to severe burns. The third victim was identified as:

  • Michael G Saucier W/M DOB: 06/14/1949- 61 years of age.

Michael and Mitzi Saucier reside at 186 Bayou Tranquille Road Belle River LA. It was confirmed that Ava and Jacob Saucier were the grandchildren of Michael and Mitzi Saucier, and were spending the night at the residence at the time of the fire. It was also confirmed that Michael Saucier is the father of the children's father, Blake Saucier.

The LA State Fire Marshals Office arrived on scene and took over the investigation. It should be noted that no sign of foul play is indicated as the cause of the fire. This investigation is ongoing. Two residential structures were completely destroyed and a third received major damage.

"This is a terrible tragedy which has shaken the quiet community of Bayou Tranquille. The first responders of this community can only offer our deepest sympathy to the victims' family. Our hearts and prayers are with you, Sheriff Mike Waguespack.
