Belle Rose Man Arrested For Attempted 2nd Degree Murder - Thursday, January 20, 2011

On July 1, 2010 deputies were dispatched to 117 Greenbriar Street, Belle Rose, in reference to a male subject being shot. The victim said he was sitting inside his vehicle in the driveway of the residence when he saw a subject walk up to him on the driver's side of the vehicle. He exited the vehicle and saw a black man wearing a red bandana and holding a black handgun. He immediately began wrestling with the masked subject and attempted to take the gun away from him. While wrestling in a ditch in front of his residence he heard the gun go off two to three times. After he heard the shots, he lost his grip on the subject and ran into his home where he collapsed on the living room floor. The victim was found shot in the lower abdomen and laying in a pool of blood. He was immediately transported to Thibodaux Regional General Hospital where he was treated and later released. Deputies secured the crime scene and found a red bandana which matched the description of that described by the victim. This evidence was sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for DNA testing. On November 5th, 2010, the crime lab sent notification of a CODIS (Combined DNA Index System) match. A search warrant for the suspect's DNA was executed and swabs were taken from Jarron H. Collins, age 20, of 155 Highway 1, Belle Rose and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis and comparison. On January 20, 2011, our agency received confirmation from the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab of a positive match of Collins' DNA on the bandana.

Jarron H. Collins was taken into custody this afternoon and has been charged with Attempted 2nd Degree Murder. His bond has not been set as of the time of this release and he is being held at the Assumption Parish Detention Center.
