2 Year Old Drown In Pond Behind His Residence - Wednesday, April 20, 2011

On April 20, 2011 around 9:30 a.m., Assumption Parish 911 Center received a call from a mother who found her 2 year old boy in a pond behind their residence. Pierre Part Fire and Rescue, Acadian Ambulance and Deputies were dispatched to 683 Paige Lane located in "The Oaks at Belle River” subdivision. The child was later transferred by Acadian Ambulance Air Med Services to Teche Regional Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead around 11:30 a.m.

The body of the child has been sent to the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office for autopsy in order to determine the exact cause of death. Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears the 2 year old awoke, exited the residence through a door, opened the gate of a fenced in area behind the residence and entered a pond which borders several lots in the neighborhood. It appears at this time that this will be ruled as an accidental drowning.
