Traffic Stop Yields Crystal Meth and Guns - Friday, June 17, 2011

On June 16, 2011 around 11 p.m., Deputy Hayward "Jamie” Coddou and Deputy Donald Calamia were patrolling Highway 1 just north of Napoleonville when they noticed a vehicle failing to stop at Highway 1 and the Highway 402 Bridge. They initiated a traffic stop and advised the individual why he was being stopped. The individual appeared very nervous to the point where he could barely speak. Consent to search was later given and as the subject was being patted down for officer safety reasons a glass smoking pipe was located in his pocket. After the pat down, 12.8 grams of crystal meth was discovered in an ice chest on the floor board of the vehicle. Also located in the vehicle were two digital scales along with some packaging materials commonly used to weigh and package narcotics. The driver who was the only occupant of the vehicle was then placed under arrest.

Layne J. Medine, age 29, of 30531 Medine Road, Donaldsonville, Louisiana, was arrested and booked on the following charges: Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession with intent to distribute-Schedule II (Crystal Meth), and Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign. Bond has been set at $15,650.00 and he has since bonded out of the Assumption Parish Detention Center.
