On July 21, 2011, Assumption Parish Detectives responded to various burglary and criminal damage to property complaints in Pierre Part. One resident at 3606 Highway 70 reported the theft of a GPS and a radar detector which were located in his vehicle parked at his residence. Another resident at 108 Simone Street reported that a radar detector and pair of sunglasses were stolen from his vehicle. As well, he found the hood of his truck open and it appeared his carburetor and gas tank was filled with water. This victim suspected Rhett Cavalier, age 40, of 639 Shell Beach Road, Pierre Part, because he had just gotten out of jail the day before and his sister has a protective order against him. The victim lives with his sister and Rhett Cavalier has been ordered by the Court to stay away from that residence. Another victim at 108 Simone Street reported that his car was broken into and a bottle of medicine was stolen.
Investigators received information that a male subject fitting the description of Rhett Cavalier had been attempting to sell some of the stolen items to a Rhett Cavalier was just recently released from jail on July 20, 2011 after a March 27, 2011 arrest after serving jail time for Simple Criminal Trespassing, Disturbing the Peace, Simple Criminal Damage to Property under $500.00, 3 counts of simple assault, simple battery and 3 counts of resisting arrest. He pled guilty on June 29, 2011 and was sentenced by the Court to 30 days on each count to run concurrent and was ordered to stay away from the victim.
