On Sunday, September 11, 2011, Deputy Donnie Calamia Jr. conducted a traffic stop on LA Highway 308 in Paincourtville in reference to a female driver not wearing a seatbelt. The vehicle was also occupied by another male and female occupant. After the driver stepped out to present her registration and proof of insurance, the male occupant who was in the backseat jumped in the front seat and accelerated forward throwing the front female passenger (22 yoa) out of the vehicle where she landed onto a gravel road hitting her head. The male suspect then travelled erratically through several yards where numerous children and adults had to run and jump out of the way to avoid being run over. The vehicle was later located a short time later abandoned on a headland, cane field road near a residential subdivision (Greenbriar Subdivision) less than couple of miles away from the scene of the traffic stop. The victim stated to deputies that the male subject advised her that he was about to run and that he pushed her out of the vehicle as he accelerated away. While searching for the suspect near site of the abandoned vehicle, deputies were alerted by a resident that she heard something moving in her shed. Deputies quickly responded and located the subject in the attic area of the shed along with a paper napkin filled with a green vegetable substance believed to be marijuana. Acadian Ambulance was dispatched to the initial scene where the victim who was thrown from the car later refused medical treatment.
The male subject taken into custody is Jermaine A. Moland (28 yoa) of 212 Virginia Street, Belle Rose, Louisiana. He has been charged with Probation Violation, Resisting an Officer, Driving under Suspension, Open Container, Unauthorized Entry of Inhabited Dwelling, Aggravated Flight from an Officer, Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance (Marijuana), Simple Battery, Reckless Operation and No Seatbelt. He is currently being held at the Assumption Parish Detention Center. No Bond has been set as of the time of this release.
