Fugitive Facing Drug Charge Extradited From Indiana - Tuesday, September 20, 2011
On September 19, 2011, Warden Joe Young and Assistant Warden David Bailey travelled to Elkhart, Indiana to transport a fugitive who was in custody of the Elkhart County Sheriff. Kentrell T. Sanders, age 30, of 314 College Street, Napoleonville did not show on May 26, 2011 for his jury trial in Napoleonville for the charge of distribution of crack cocaine. Sanders was one of the 64 defendants arrested earlier in the year (January 2011) during "Operation Get a Real Job”. A failure to appear warrant was issued by the Court and he was later arrested on June 20, 2011 by Elkhart County Sheriff's Office on a traffic stop where he was charged with Possession of Marijuana and Resisting Law Enforcement. The Assumption Parish Sheriff placed a detainer on him and Sanders later waived extradition. We were notified that he was available to be released to our custody late last week. He was transported without incident and has been booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on the warrant for failure to appear for trial. By orders of the Court, he is to be held at the Assumption Parish Detention Center without bond until his trial date.
