Sheriff Mike Waguespack reports that at approximately 11:29PM on Friday evening dispatchers received a 911 call concerning a shootout in the parking lot at a Convenience Store at the intersection of Hwy 308 and Spur 70 in Plattenville. Callers reported that one person was hit.
Upon arrival deputies discovered a large group of vehicles leaving the area. Witnesses reported that two groups of subjects in the Jubilee parking lot were involved in an altercation which led to a gun battle. The 36 year old victim was standing outside the neighboring bar next to the store and was struck by stray bullets. The victim sustained grazing wound to his hand and abdomen and a third wound to his buttocks. The victim was transported to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance and later released after receiving treatment. Three parked vehicles were also struck by stray bullets.
While searching the parking lot deputies recovered eight spent rifle casings, two spent pistol casings, and one live pistol bullet. While on the crime scene a vehicle stopped and the occupants began screaming at a group of witnesses being detained by deputies. The subjects then returned to their vehicle and sped away. Deputies pursued and stopped the vehicle a short distance away on Hwy 1. The occupants were identified as Darrell Thomas 18 and Terrance Johnson 18, both of Paincourtville and two juveniles. Thomas and Johnson were arrested for Contributing to the Delinquency of the two juvenile passengers. The two juveniles were charged with Curfew Violation and were released to their guardians. Investigators determined that these subjects were not involved in the actual shoot out.
