On Wednesday Night around 7:00 pm, Assumption Parish Dispatch Center received a call advising that they were at choir practice at St. Philomena Catholic Church when a tall, slim white male carrying a backpack came inside the church, knelt down to pray, and left after snatching a purse from a female choir member. A male member of the choir then gave chase and was later joined by a citizen from Labadieville and they were able to detain the subject in the yard of a nearby residence. During the chase, the subject attempted to throw the purse under a house on Highway 1 and damaged the resident's fence while jumping over it. Responding deputies arrived shortly thereafter and took the subject into custody. The purse and all of its contents were recovered and returned to the victim.
