New Orleans Woman Arrested For Kidnapping a Two Year Old Belle Rose Girl - Monday, April 30, 2012

Sheriff Mike Waguespack reports that on Saturday, April 28, 2012, at approximately 8:25PM, deputies responded to the 200 block of Hwy 1003 in Belle Rose concerning a two year old child being abducted.

Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the childís mother who reported that a friend of the family, Paula Cooks (47 yoa BF) of 2803 South Robinson Street, Apt. F, New Orleans, had attended a gathering at the residence and left with her two year old daughter without her permission. Cooks apparently took the child while she was playing in the yard with her nine year old sister. Cooks told the nine year old that her sister was going to New Orleans with her and left the residence in a tan car driven by a male acquaintance. Investigators responded to the incident and subsequently requested the assistance of a family member of Cooks with locating her.

At approximately 11:00PM, Investigators learned that another acquaintance of Cooks had brought her and the child to the New Orleans Police Department Sixth District Station upon learning that the child was taken without the motherís permission.

Investigators responded to New Orleans and recovered the child, who was unharmed. Cooks was transported back to Assumption Parish where she was charged with Simple Kidnapping. She is currently being held on a $10,000 bond.

This matter remains under investigation.
