Press Release 15 - Gas Bubbles in the Bayou Corne/Grand Bayou Areas - Thursday, August 9, 2012

It has been reported to OEP that the Louisiana National Guard helicopter pilot/crew, using infrared equipment, flew over the slurry/sinkhole site last night and observed a 10-20 foot growth to the North & South.

Today, DEQ monitored the atmosphere at the slurry site for radiation and no detectable amount of radiation was present.

The bubble monitoring (by boat) that is being done twice daily was completed this morning and showed no changes (meaning no dangerous levels were detected). Additional monitoring for radiation was performed as well and no detection of radiation was discovered at the bubbling spots in the waterways.
