On September 9th 2012, Assumption Parish
Deputies were dispatched to the New Belmont Baptist Church (3037 Highway 1
Labadieville, LA) in reference to an alleged sexual assault. Upon arrival,
Deputies spoke with the complainant who stated that she discovered her fourteen
year old daughter behind the church with 23 year old Travanti Williams of
Labadieville, LA. It appeared that the
two were involved in an inappropriate sexual act. The mother approached the two and pushed her
daughter off of the man and called the Sheriff’s Office. Williams fled the area before deputies could
arrive. During the investigation
Detectives learned that the two were attending church on that day. The Juvenile went outside and Williams approached
her. Williams led her to a secluded area
behind the church where he placed her in a bear hug and began to sexually
assault her, but the juvenile’s mother was able to interact before that
happened. The juvenile also informed
detectives that this was not the first time Williams had made a sexual advance
towards her. The juvenile was taken for
medical evaluation and later released.
Detectives
secured an arrest warrant late yesterday for Williams for one count of
Molestation of a Juvenile. Williams was
taken into custody yesterday and booked on unrelated charges of Simple Criminal
Damage to Property under $500, Un-authorized entry of an Inhabited Dwelling,
Simple Battery and Failure to Appear for Simple Battery. He
was booked today with charge of Molestation of a Juvenile.
