Labadieville Man Arrested For Burglary of St. Philomena Church - Monday, January 28, 2013

Around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday Night, Assumption Parish Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to St. Philomena Catholic Church on Convent Street concerning some reported suspicious activity. The resident Priest who lives next door to the Church called Assumption Parish 911 Center and reported that the Church Bells were "going crazy” as the bells normally played for a funeral service were activated from inside the Church. Officers arrived on scene and made entry into the church and discovered a man who had taken his shoes off and was drinking. He later stated that he was getting ready to play the piano just before deputies arrived. He also indicated that he activated the church bells after making entry. It appeared he made entry into the Church after forcing a door open.

Hamid Banisaaid, age 32, of, 225 Redwood Street, Labadieville, Louisiana, was booked in the Assumption Parish Detention Center and charged with Simple Burglary of a Religious Building. His bond has not been set as of the time of this release.
