On May 6, 2013, around 3:45 p.m., the Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a complaint of a stabbing at a residence in the 160 block of Virginia Street in Belle Rose. Upon arrival, deputies found a 21 year old male subject stabbed once in the back and once in the chest. He advised that he and his girlfriend were arguing and that as he was leaving the residence his girlfriend stabbed him in the back and as he turned around she stabbed him in the chest. She then ran out of the house. The male subject was transported by Acadian Air Med to a hospital in Baton Rouge. He is currently still hospitalized but is reported to be in stable condition. Detectives responded to the scene and later interviewed the suspect. She stated that she had left the residence for a short time and when she returned her boyfriend accused her of cheating on him and they began to argue. She stated she was afraid of her boyfriend and picked up a long knife from the kitchen and stabbed him. She stated "when she saw blood coming from her boyfriend's mouth, she became afraid that he was badly hurt and called 911.”
Gwendolyn Simon, age 26, of 168 Virginia Street, Belle Rose was charged with 1 Count of Aggravated Second Degree Battery (Felony). She was booked in the Assumption Parish Detention Center and is awaiting her bond to be set.
