Assumption Parish Sheriffs Office

Missing Person Found Dead Off Grand Isle Beach - Tuesday, June 11, 2013
The Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office received a complaint of a missing person, who was identified as Michael Blanchard, age 51 from Labadieville. Friends and family found it strange that he did not show up for work at a local Auto Parts Store on Monday morning and they could not reach him on his cellular phone or locate him at his residence. Detectives began using technological assets in an attempt to locate Mr. Blanchard and those results led detectives to believe that he may be in the Grand Isle area after "pinging” his cellular phone. Assumption Parish detectives began to coordinate with the Grand Isle Police Department and Mr. Blanchard's vehicle was located shortly thereafter in Grand Isle parked at a public beach access point. Sheriff Waguespack accompanied by his investigation division travelled to Grand Isle to offer any assistance needed. Assets from Grand Isle Fire Department, Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office and the United States Coast Guard also arrived to assist in the search. As night began to fall the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office Air Unit located the body of Mr. Blanchard on top of some rock jetties which run parallel to the beach in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The remains were recovered and transported to Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office where an autopsy has been scheduled. It is presumed at this time that his cause of death was due to drowning but will await autopsy results before stating the official cause of death.
Sheriff Mike Waguespack asks that if anyone has any additional information, please contact the Detectives Division at (985)526-1627.
