NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE UPDATE - Monday, January 27, 2014

NWS Slidell:

- A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for the entire forecast area. This is likely to be upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning later today.

- All forms of precipitation will be possible Tuesday and Tuesday night.

- Ice accumulations will be possible before it transitions over to snow. Possible accumulations of snow could reach up to 4 inches in some areas, while possible accumulations of ice could reach up to .25 inches.

- Heaviest ice accumulations at this time are expected to occur along and south of the I-10/12 corridor including Metro New Orleans.

- Heaviest snow accumulations at this time are expected to occur north of the I-10/12 corridor in the northern reaches of the north shore Parishes.

- A Hard Freeze is expected as duration of below freezing temperatures can be 48 to 60 hours long.

- Estimated Timing and Duration:

o Baton Rouge: below freezing very early Tuesday morning; onset of freezing rain by sunrise Tuesday, onset of sleet by early afternoon with some snow mixing in. Transitioning to all snow before ending very late Tuesday night.

o New Orleans: below freezing shortly after sunrise Tuesday; onset of freezing rain by mid-late morning, transitioning to sleet by late afternoon with some snow possibly mixing in before ending very early Wednesday morning.

o North Shore: below freezing by sunrise Tuesday; onset of freezing rain just after
