TRAFFIC STOP YIELDS DRUGS AND GUN - Friday, November 21, 2014

BELLE ROSE --- Sheriff Mike Waguespack reports that on Friday, November 21st, 2014 at approximately 12:25am, a Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputy, Cody Landry, initiated a traffic stop on a Honda Pilot on Highway 70. The vehicle was being driven by Clifton Escort, B/M age 36 of 732 Lewis St., New Iberia and had been reported stolen by Morgan City Police Department. The driver and passenger, Joey Francois, B/M age 34 of 229 Robin Street, Morgan City, were also wanted on outstanding warrants from Morgan City Police Department. A search of the vehicle discovered a clear plastic gallon bag of suspected marijuana, a smaller clear plastic bag of suspected marijuana, and a pink and gray Taurus 9mm pistol. The driver and passenger were both placed under arrest.

Clifton James Escort, Jr. was booked in the Assumption Parish Detention Center on November 21st, 2014 for LRS 14:69 Possession of Stolen Things, LRS 40:966 Possession w/Intent to Distribute Schedule 1 CDS (Marijuana), LRS 14:95.1 Possession of Firearm by a convicted felon, LRS 14:95(E) Illegal Carrying of a Weapon in the presence of CDS, LRS 32:303 Headlamps/2 Required. His bond has not been set and he is still in custody as of the time of this release. Joey J. Francois was booked in the Assumption Parish Detention Center on November 21st, 2014 for LRS 14:69 Possession of Stolen Things, LRS 40:966 Possession w/Intent to Distribute Schedule 1 CDS (Marijuana), LRS 14:95.1 Possession of Firearm by a convicted felon, LRS 14:95(E) Illegal Carrying of a Weapon in the presence of CDS. His bond has not been set and he is still in custody as of the time of this release.
