PIERRE PART --- Sheriff Mike Waguespack
reports that on Sunday, January 25th, 2015 at approximately 2:30am
Assumption Parish Dispatch received a call about a domestic dispute. Deputies responded to 133 Daniel Street, Pierre
Part and made contact with his wife. It
was determined that deputy Gary Ellis, Jr, W/M, age 30 of 133
Daniel Street had been drinking all night at a party and an
argument ensued upon returning home. It
was alleged before deputies arrived that during the argument he had thrown his
wife to the ground in different rooms of the house. The first deputy on scene attempted to calm
him down. He confronted the deputy,
grabbed her and attempted to grab her duty weapon. Other responding deputies arrived on scene
and took control of the situation.
Statements were taken and all this complaint was referred to the
Criminal Investigative Division of the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office for a
full and complete investigation.
Upon completion of all interviews of all parties involved,
Patrol Deputy Gary Ellis, Jr., a 4 year veteran with the Assumption Parish
Sheriff’s Office, was terminated from his employment earlier today. Detective
Captain Darren Crochet later arrested him and booked him in the Assumption Parish Detention Center on
January 27th, 2015 for LRS 14:35.3 Domestic Abuse Battery, LRS
14:34.2 Battery of a Police Officer, LRS
14:27.34.6 Attempted disarming of a Peace Officer. His bond has not been set and he is still in
custody as of the time of this release.
