HALLOWEEN SAFETY MESSAGE
FROM: SHERIFF LELAND FALCON
Halloween season is upon us and the occasion is one we want all children to remember as festive but safe. Below are some quick tips to follow as Trick or Treat approaches.
*First, carefully plan the Trick or Treat route for children to follow. Parents or guardians should accompany small children allowing them to Trick or Treat only at homes of which the parent or guardian are familiar.
*Be observant of traffic in the area and avoid walking near travel lanes.
*Before children consume any of their candy, a parent or guardian should sort through it carefully.
*Parents or guardians should check the area being visited for registered sex offenders.
Parents or guardians may identify registered sex offenders in the Trick or Treat area by simply logging onto the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office web page. Once on the home page, look to the far right column and click onto "Sex Offender Watch”. Click on, "Search for Offenders in Your Area”, then click on the "Search” column to the left. Insert an address located within the selected Trick or Treat area. Hit "Submit” and the offenders for that area will be listed. The range of the search area may be changed to accommodate specific needs. The registered sex offender’s location is identified by clicking on the balloon or corresponding number at the top right of the page.
Louisiana Revised Statute RS 14:313.1 prohibits any convicted sex offender from participating in any manner what so ever in Halloween festivities.
If you observe any activities out of the ordinary, please contact (985) 369-2912 or 911.
