PAINCOURTVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland
Falcon reports that on Friday, detectives charged Kirby Thomas, 38, of 117
Greenbriar Street, Paincourtville, LA with attempted manslaughter in connection
with the shooting that occurred on January 5, 2017 at Thomas’ home.
In that incident, Thomas fatally shot Nehemiah Jones,
28, of 212 Highway 1003, Belle Rose, and critically wounded Lashon Brown, 30,
of 209 Highway 1003 Belle Rose. Thomas
is being charged at this time in the wounding of Brown. Brown remains in
serious condition in a Baton Rouge hospital.
At the time of the incident, Thomas was booked on
multiple drug counts after agents seized cocaine while executing a search
warrant relative to the shooting. Thomas
has not been charged with the death of Nehemiah Jones. Thomas contends he fired in self-defense. That investigation is ongoing. Additionally, Thomas was booked with
possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Thomas remains in jail and awaits a bond hearing on
the attempted manslaughter charge.
