SUBJECT: CAPTURE OF ESCAPEE – CALVIN T.
Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the
arrest of Calvin T. Weatherford, Jr, 39, last reported address of 932 Bayou
Drive, Pierre Part, LA, in Point Coupee Parish, in the town of Jarreau.
Weatherford was being held on two counts of
residential burglary and a probation hold when he scaled a fence at the
Assumption Parish Detention Center early Wednesday.
The Sheriff’s Office responded in force immediately
and began responding to tips from the public.
The Sheriff’s Office developed information Thursday
morning which indicated Weatherford was at a relative’s home in Erwinville. Weatherford at some point traveled to his dad’s
home in Jarreau.
Law enforcement personnel converged on the mobile home
and Weatherford ran off and jumped into Bayou Chanel where he treaded water for
a time. A deputy was able to reach
Weatherford and he was arrested.
Weatherford will be booked into Point Coupee Parish Jail as a fugitive
and will eventually be returned to Assumption Parish.
In addition to the escape, Weatherford will face
additional counts of auto theft related to a GMC Yukon he allegedly stole near
LA 70 and used this vehicle to make his exit from the parish. He will also face attempted burglary and
criminal damage to property charges resulting from him burglarizing one other
vehicle and attempted burglary of a third vehicle.
