SUBJECT:      FRESHMAN PARENT ORIENTATION PRESENTATION

DANGERS OF SOCIAL MEDIA

NAPOLENVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Office Captain Donnie Calamia addressed the parents of the 2017-2018 Freshman Class at Assumption High regarding the dangers related to the use of social media.

The presentation covered the topics of sexting, cyber safety and insight into the many dangers law-enforcement encounters every day in the cyber world.  School administrators also see on a daily basis those dangers that children face during their high school years.

The presentation included tips to parents to keep their children safe and out of trouble as they enter high school in an attempt to deter the cybercrime epidemic that we have experienced in recent years.

Sheriff Leland Falcon said the seminars are a valuable tool in the parish school systems.  "The presentations are not only aimed at preventing our children from becoming victims, but also as importantly, an objective is to prevent children from unintentionally violating social media related laws”, Falcon said.
