K-9 Unit Deputies Speak to Fire Department - Tuesday, December 19, 2017

DATE:            TUESDAY, DECEMBER 19, 2017
TO:                  ALL MEDIA OUTLETS
FROM:            SHERIFF LELAND FALCON
SUBJECT:      K-9 UNIT DEPUTIES SPEAK TO FIRE DEPARTMENT

PIERRE PART Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon had K-9 Officers, Deputy David Leonard and Lt. Jared Tabor, speak to the Pierre Part Fire Department on Monday night, December 18th, concerning drug related issues that deputies as well as first responders face every day right here in our communities.

The two officers along with K-9s, Rocket and Major, gave a drug detection demonstration and the deputies explained the various services K-9s provide.

The officers addressed the more popular drugs of choice today locally that addicts use.  The most common drugs now are heroin laced with the deadly sedative, Fentanyl, cocaine, crack, crystal meth, synthetic marijuana and a variety of opioids.

The deputies advised the fireman on how to handle certain situations they may come across.

The seminar was very appropriate as the two departments often attend the same emergency calls.

Sheriff Falcon thanks Fire Chief Don Breaux for the invitation.
