Non-Student on School Campus with Firearm - Thursday, January 11, 2018

NAPOLEONVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrests of John Andrew Lewis, Jr., of 308 Talbot Avenue, Thibodaux, LA and Javon Lacy, 22, of 701 St. Mary Street, Napoleonville, LA, on gun law violations relating to an incident on Assumption High School property Tuesday night.

At approximately 8 p.m. Tuesday evening, Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the area of Assumption High School in reference to a disturbance.

While in route, deputies observed the suspect vehicle described in the complaint traveling south on LA 308.

Deputies stopped the vehicle on LA 308 and identified the driver as John Andrew Lewis, Jr. Deputies conducted interviews of Lewis as well as the occupants, one of which was identified as Javon Lacy.

As a result of those interviews and other related information, deputies seized two handguns from the vehicle and were able to confirm that the vehicle was the same one that was at Assumption High.

John Andrew Lewis, Jr., was arrested, transported to the Assumption Parish Detention Center and booked on charges of:

            *Illegal Carrying of a Firearm or Dangerous Weapon by a Student/Non-Student on School Premises (Felony – 2 Counts)

The investigation continued and as a result, warrants were obtained for the arrest of Javon Lacy on charges of:

            *Aggravated Assault with a Dangerous Weapon

            *Illegal Carrying of a Firearm or Dangerous Weapon by a Student/Non-Student on School Premises (Felony)

Lacy was arrested Wednesday evening and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center.

Both Lewis and Lacy are being held pending bond hearings.

Neither Lewis or Lacy are students at Assumption High School. 

Assumption Parish Superintendent of Schools, Earl "Tibby” Martinez issued the following statement concerning this incident:

Dear Parents/Guardian:

 

This correspondence is to advise you of an incident that occurred on January 9, 2018, at Assumption High School at 8:00 PM.

 

These two individuals are NOT students at Assumption High School and was not participating or attending a sanctioned school event. The incident occurred after hours and there was no threat to the general student body or faculty.

 

Please be assured that our students' safety is paramount to us. We will continue to take all measures to maintain a safe and secure environment at all of our campuses. Due to state and federal privacy laws, however; and to preserve the integrity of the investigations by other authorities, the District will not disclose any further information concerning this matter.
