S.W.A.T. Training At OLOL Assumption Community Hospital - Thursday, February 8, 2018

DATE:            THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 08, 2018
TO:                  ALL MEDIA OUTLETS
FROM:            SHERIFF LELAND FALCON
SUBJECT:      S.W.A.T. TRAINING AT OLOL ASSUMPTION COMMUNITY HOSPITAL

NAPOLEONVILLE – On Wednesday, the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office S.W.A.T. Team and Our Lady of the Lake conducted a joint training session at the Napoleonville campus of OLOL.

The combined effort was an exercise which was of benefit to both the hospital and the Sheriff’s Office.

OLOL’s mission was to get some specialized training in active shooter situations as well as other events that would require a specialized unit such as S.W.A.T.

At the same time, the Sheriff’s Office benefitted from the standpoint of having unlimited access to the Napoleonville Hospital’s campus so that in the case of an event, the familiarity with the workings of the hospital are known to law-enforcement beforehand.

The S.W.A.T. Unit also practiced door breaches with a specialized door breach apparatus.

The Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office S.W.A.T. Unit is a high tech specialized unit that is comprised of patrol deputies, detectives, supervisors and command staff.  Sheriff Falcon has upgraded the unit and mandates constant training.

The S.W.A.T. Unit is designed to handle active shooter situations, hostage crisis, narcotics entry situations, barricaded suspects as well as other specialized critical events.

While we all hope S.W.A.T. is never needed, it is likely in today’s society that in the present or foreseeable future, the team will be utilized.

The two organizations, S.W.A.T. and OLOL, expect to continue to train together in the future.

Sheriff Falcon thanks the Bayou Cane Fire District for the use of their breach door apparatus at no cost.

Sheriff Falcon also thanks the hospital staff as well as Assumption’s very own S.W.A.T. Unit for their tireless efforts in training for the events we all hope never occur.
