DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE – JERRET CHARLES CORTEZ

BAYOU L’OURSE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Jerret Charles Cortez, 35, of 249 Vivian Street, LA, on felony domestic charges arising from a disturbance at a residence in Bayou L’Ourse on Friday.

Deputies were dispatched to the location and made contact with the complainant who advised that Jerret Charles Cortez was observed on the property. The victim went outside to see what the suspect was doing there. The accused, Jerret Charles Cortez, immediately became aggressive towards the victim and at some point, made physical contact and grabbed the victim in a choking manner. The victim was able to free himself, but Jerret Charles Cortez continued attacking him.

Another individual attempted to intervene but was unable to stop the attack. At some point. The suspect stopped striking the victim and walked off.

Deputies located Jerret Charles Cortez and arrested him. Jerret Charles Cortez was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:

*Domestic Abuse Battery Involving Strangulation
*Simple Assault

Jerret Charles Cortez remains incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
