DRUG LAW / TAKING CONTRABAND INTO DETENTION CENTER

NAPOLEONVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Dawn Schumann, 38, of 202 Simmons Road, Napoleonville, LA, on felony charges arising from an investigation that originated at the Assumption Parish Detention Center.
An Assumption Parish Detention Center supervisor developed information that a food service employee working for a private contractor but assigned to kitchen duties at the detention center was trafficking illegal narcotics in the facility.
An investigation was initiated by the Uniformed Patrol Division and the Narcotics Division.
On Sunday, a K-9 unit conducted an open-air sniff of the automobile the employee, now identified as Dawn Schumann, drove to work on a daily basis. The K-9 alerted positive to the presence of illegally controlled dangerous substances. A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of methamphetamine and associated drug paraphernalia.
Dawn Schumann, who was at work on Sunday, was immediately relieved of her duties and arrested.
Dawn Schumann was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:
*Taking Contraband to / from a Penal Institution
*Possession of Methamphetamine
*Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Dawn Schumann remains incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
