SHOOTING INCIDENT / 100 BLOCK OF LA-403

PAINCOURTVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Derrick A. Haughton, 32, of 130 Highway 403, Paincourtville, LA.

On Sunday, May 9, 2021, deputies responded to the 100 block of LA-403 in reference to a shooting incident. Upon arrival, deputies noted that several shots had been fired and some did cause damages.

A follow-up investigation revealed that a fight amongst juveniles occurred at a nearby residence. At that time, Derrick A. Haughton intervened and struck at least two juveniles in a physical manner.

Derrick A. Haughton left the scene but was followed by one of the parents of the teens involved. Haughton at one point exited the vehicle, however his vehicle continued on until striking a local business.

At this time, Haughton fired numerous rounds in the direction of the vehicle, striking the vehicle multiple times. There were two adults and two children in the vehicle.

Haughton left the area. Warrants were obtained for his arrest. Haughton has a prior domestic arrest.

At the conclusion of the investigation, Derrick Haughton was arrested and booked on charges of:

*Attempted Second Degree Murder – 4 Counts
*Cruelty to Juveniles – 2 Counts
*Simple Criminal Damage to Property – Felony
*Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property
*Illegal Use of Weapons
*Possession of a Firearm or Carrying of a Concealed Weapon by a Person Convicted of Domestic Abuse Battery

Derrick A. Haughton was incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
