SIMPLE BURGLARY – MOTOR VEHICLES – 11 COUNTS

BAYOU L’OURSE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Gregory Joseph Payne, 21, of 1809 J Street, Patterson, LA, on 11 counts of vehicle burglary arising from an investigation in the Bayou L’Ourse areas dating back to January of 2022.
On or about January 22, 2022, deputies responded to multiple complaints of vehicle burglaries in the area of Griffin Court. Deputies initiated an investigation and identified 11 vehicles that had been burglarized. Deputies located electronic evidence which led to the identification of a suspect vehicle.
During the same period, the suspect vehicle was tied to burglaries in the Gibson and Stephensville areas.
Through investigation, detectives identified multiple suspects, one being Gregory Joseph Payne, and were able to place Payne in the area of the crimes at the time the offenses were committed.
At the conclusion of the investigation, detectives secured arrest warrants for Gregory Joseph Payne as well as other suspects.
Gregory Joseph Payne was facing charges in multiple jurisdictions. He was transferred from the St. Mary Parish Jail on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, to the custody of the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Gregory Joseph Payne was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:
*Simple Burglary – Motor Vehicle – 11 Counts
*Fugitive – St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office
*Fugitive – Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office
Gregory Joseph Payne remains incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
