TRAFFIC / DRUG LAW VIOLATIONS – SHAWN MICHAEL CONKLIN

PLATTENVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Shawn Michael Conklin, 37, of 205 Darlene Street, Morgan City, LA, on felony drug charges arising from a traffic stop near LA 70 and Spur 70 east of Plattenville.

A uniformed patrol deputy observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation and initiated a stop of that vehicle. The deputy conducted an officer / violator interview and noted conditions consistent with illegal activity. The deputy concluded that further investigation was warranted. The accused now identified as Shawn Michael Conklin was detained.

A K-9 unit was summoned to the location and the K-9 conducted an open-air sniff of the suspect vehicle and alerted positive to the presence of controlled dangerous substances. During a search of the vehicle, drug paraphernalia was seized.

A pat down search of Shawn Michael Conklin resulted in activity deemed suspicious, but Conklin denied having any illegal drugs. During an invasive personal body search at the detention center, deputies seized a quantity of Heroin.

At the conclusion of this investigation, Shawn Michael Conklin was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:

*Obstruction of Justice
*Possession of Heroin
*Taking Contraband to / from Penal Investigations
*Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
*Owner to Secure Registration

Shawn Michael Conklin remains incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
