KENYA PATTERSON / DAVONTA DESEAN VERRET
BAYOU BOUEF – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrests of Kenya Patterson, 27, of 3644 Baker Drive, Houma, LA and Devonta Desean Verret, 22, of 1301 Fresno Drive, Houma, LA, on multiple felony charges following a traffic stop on Sunday.
A uniformed patrol deputy was working duty on U.S. 90 near Bayou Bouef when he clocked a speeding vehicle at 121 miles per hour in a 70 mile per hour zone.
The deputy was able to stop the vehicle and made contact with the driver who at the time provided an Alabama identification with a fictitious name.
The deputy noted a strong odor of suspected marijuana emitting from the vehicle.
The deputy made contact with the passenger identified as Devon Desean Verret. At some point the driver was correctly identified as Kenya Patterson.
As a precaution, both suspects were detained.
The vehicle was searched and a large caliber firearm with a high-volume ammunition cannister was seized. Both suspects were confirmed to be convicted felons.
Both suspects were placed under arrest and as a result of a protective pat down search incident to arrest, a quantity of illegal drugs were seized.
Additionally, additional contraband was seized during a cavity search at the detention center off of the person of Devonta Desean Verret.
Kenya Patterson was booked on charges of:
*Speeding (121 MPH in a 70 MPH Zone)
*Careless Operation of a Motor Vehicle
*Possession of Heroin
*Possession of Marijuana
*Possession of MDMA (Ecstasy)
*Prohibited Acts – Schedule IV
*Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
*Unlawful Production, Manufacture, Distribution or Possession of Fraudulent
Documents for Identification Purposes
*Taking Contraband to/from a Penal Institution
Devonta Desean Verret was charged with:
*Possession of Heroin
*Possession of Marijuana
*Possession of MDMA (Ecstasy)
*Taking Contraband to/from a Penal Institution
*Obstruction of Justice
*Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
Both suspects were incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
