TRAFFIC – DRUG LAW VIOLATIONS

AMELIA – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Shaljaup Williams, 30, of 312 Ellis Street, Patterson, LA, on felony drug charges following a traffic stop on U.S. 90 in Amelia, LA, early Saturday evening.

An ICE Unit on assignment in the Amelia area observed an east bound vehicle commit a traffic violation and initiated a stop of the vehicle. The deputy made contact with the driver identified as Shaljaup Williams as well as one passenger.

The deputy noted a strong odor of suspected marijuana emitting from the vehicle and upon questioning Williams, the suspect acknowledged the presence of marijuana in the vehicle and consented to a search of the vehicle.

During that process, deputies seized additional marijuana, cocaine and assorted drug paraphernalia.

Shaljaup Williams was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:

*Possession of Cocaine (Felony)
*Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute
*Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
*Driving Under Suspension
*Improper Display of Proper Registration / License Plate

Shaljaup Williams has a bond set at $45,000.
