TRAFFIC INCIDENT – DRUG LAW VIOLATIONS – I.C.E.ARRESTS
ROYAL DORSEY, III, JAMES SMITH, JR. and
RICHARD THOMPSON CITED
NAPOLEONVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrests of James Smith, Jr., 46, of 314 Pelican Street, Labadieville, LA, Royal Dorsey, III, 54 of 134 Alvin Street, Napoleonville, LA, and the citing of Richard Thompson, 53, of 5747 Jessica Lynn Drive, Houma, LA arising from a traffic stop south of Napoleonville Sunday evening.
A uniformed patrol deputy assigned to the I.C.E. detail observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation and initiated a stop of that vehicle. The deputy made contact with the driver, now identified as Richard Thompson and conducted an officer / violator interview. The deputy then proceeded to interview two passengers, namely Royal Dorsey, III and James Smith, Jr. The deputy noticed a handgun in the vicinity of James Smith, Jr. who is a convicted felon. Both passengers were removed from the suspect vehicle. A quantity of suspected cocaine was recovered and attributed to Royal Dorsey, III and James Smith, Jr.
At the conclusion of the investigative stop, Royal Dorsey, III and James Smith, Jr. were arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center as follows:
As to James Smith, Jr., he was charged on counts of:
*Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon (1 – .40 Caliber Handgun Seized)
*Possession of Cocaine
As to Royal Dorsey, III, he was charged on counts of:
*Possession of Cocaine
James Smith, Jr. remains incarcerated with bond set at $45,000.
Royal Dorsey, III was incarcerated and released on a $20,000 bond.
Richard Thompson was cited for speeding, 97mph / 55 mph zone and Careless Operation of a Motor Vehicle. He was released.
