TRAFFIC INCIDENT – DRUG LAW VIOLATIONS – PURSUIT

NAPOLEONVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Rodney J. Keller, Jr., 39, of 315 Philosopher Street, Napoleonville, LA, on multiple felony charges arising from a traffic incident in Napoleonville late Friday night.
A uniformed patrol officer drove upon an occupied vehicle stopped in the 300 block of Philosopher Street and blocking a driveway. The deputy exited his vehicle to investigate and at the time, the driver of the suspect vehicle upon coming into verbal range of the deputy put the vehicle in reverse and engaged deputies into a pursuit situation. The suspect committed multiple traffic violations, eventually making his way to LA 1 then to LA 308. At some point, the suspect threw packages of what was later determined to be crack cocaine from the vehicle into the roadway.
The pursuit was successfully terminated near the parish library and the suspect, now identified as Rodney J. Keller, Jr. was arrested. There was a juvenile in the suspect vehicle at the time of the incident.
Deputies recovered a significant amount of suspected crack cocaine from the roadway.
Rodney J. Keller, Jr. was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:
*Aggravated Flight from an Officer When Human Life is Endangered
*Possession with Intent to Distribute Crack Cocaine
*Illegal Use of Controlled Dangerous Substances in the Presence of a Juvenile
*Obstruction of Justice
*Child Desertion
*Driving Under a Suspended Driver’s License
*Resisting an Officer – 2 Counts
*Stopping, Standing, Parking – Prohibited Areas
Rodney J. Keller, Jr. remains incarcerated with bond set at $240,000.
Keller is a convicted felon currently on probation for prior drug offenses.
