BRENTON A. JONES / I.C.E. ARREST
LABADIEVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Brenton A. Jones, 22, of 8249 Kingview Street, St. James, LA, on felony drug and gun law violations arising from a traffic stop on LA 1 South of Labadieville late Tuesday.
A uniformed patrol deputy assigned to the I.C.E. Detail observed a southbound vehicle with an equipment violation and initiated a stop of that vehicle in order to investigate.
The deputy made contact with the driver, now identified as Brenton A. Jones and proceeded into an officer / violator interview. The deputy conducted a walk around of the vehicle and noticed in plain view a semi-automatic firearm as well as a mechanism which converts the gun to fully automatic. The deputy believed that additional investigation was warranted, thus summoned a K-9 unit to the scene.
The K-9 conducted an open-air sniff of the suspect vehicle and alerted positive to the presence of illegal controlled dangerous substances. A search of that vehicle resulted in the seizure of promethazine / codeine syrup.
Brenton A. Jones was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:
*Illegal Carrying of Weapon in the Presence of Controlled Dangerous Substances
*Prohibited Acts – Schedule V – Promethazine – Codeine
*Manufacturer / Merchant Shall Not Permit Machine Gun to Pass to Another
*Expired Motor Vehicle Inspection Certificate
*Headlights Required
Brenton A. Jones was released on a $15,000 bond.
