TRAFFIC STOP – DRUG LAW VIOLATION – JAWUAN RASHEED LEDET
PIERRE PART – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Jawuan Rasheed Ledet, 25, of 11091 Audubon Drive, Hammond, LA, on felony drug and gun law violations arising from a traffic stop on LA 70 in Pierre Part, LA, on Saturday morning.
A uniformed patrol deputy observed a westbound vehicle on LA 70 with an equipment violation and initiated a stop of that vehicle. The deputy made contact with the driver, now identified as Jawuan Rasheed Ledet and engaged Ledet in an officer / violator interview.
During the interview, the deputy noted a pungent odor of suspected marijuana emitting from the vehicle. The deputy further noted observations consistent with illegal drug activity. The deputy observed what appeared to be a large caliber handgun in plain view and in the driver capsule of the vehicle. The deputy requested and was granted consent to search the vehicle. During the search, the deputy seized numerous cigar type blunts of suspected marijuana along with a separate quantity of raw marijuana.
Jawuan Rasheed Ledet was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:
*Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute
*Illegal Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of Controlled Dangerous Substances
*Proper Equipment Required on Motor Vehicles
Jawuan Rasheed Ledet was incarcerated and released on a $30,000 commercial bond.
