TRAFFIC STOP / DRUG LAW VIOLATIONS – JOSHUA WATKINS
LABADIEVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Joshua Watkins, 36, of 1210A Winder Road, Thibodaux, LA, on multiple felony charges arising from a traffic stop on LA 1 near Labadieville on Saturday evening.
A uniformed patrol deputy observed a northbound vehicle with multiple equipment violations and initiated a stop of that vehicle. The deputy made contact with the driver, now identified as Joshua Watkins and engaged the driver in an officer / violator interview. The deputy noted a pungent odor of suspected marijuana emitting from the vehicle. The deputy conducted a computer-generated check for warrants and driver’s license. The deputy was advised by communications that Joshua Watkins was driving under a suspended driver’s license. Additionally, Watkins was wanted in Assumption Parish for Failure to Appear on a Charge of Possession of Marijuana and a fugitive warrant for Lafourche Parish. Joshua Watkins was arrested.
During a protective pat down search, deputies seized drug paraphernalia and suspected cocaine off of the person of Joshua Watkins. During a vehicle search, deputies located cocaine, marijuana and methamphetamine.
Joshua Watkins was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:
*Possession of Cocaine
*Possession of Methamphetamine
*Possession of Marijuana
*Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
*Driving Under a Suspended License
*Proper Equipment Required on Vehicles
*Failure to Appear in Assumption Parish – Possession of Marijuana
*Fugitive Warrant – Lafourche Parish
Joshua Watkins remains incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
