TRAFFIC STOP – DRUG LAW VIOLATIONS

NAPOLEONVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Alton Willie Herbert, 28, of 151 Highway 1003, Belle Rose, LA, on drug law violations following a traffic stop on East LA 70 on Tuesday evening.
A uniformed patrol officer observed an east bound vehicle on LA 70 commit a traffic violation.
The deputy initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, now identified as Alton Willie Herbert. The deputy noted a strong odor of suspected marijuana emitting from the person of Herbert as well as from the suspect vehicle. The deputy also noted that when Herbert exited the vehicle, he pitched an item to the outside of his car.
The deputy interviewed the passengers in the vehicle and observed a large caliber handgun on the floorboard. The patrol officer also detained Herbert and conducted a protective pat down search and at the time seized a quantity of suspected marijuana. Herbert’s vehicle was searched at which time additional controlled dangerous substances were seized.
At the conclusion of the investigatory portion of the stop, Alton Willie Herbert was placed under arrest and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:
*Speeding
*Possession of Marijuana (Third Offense)
*Possession of MDMA (Ecstasy) with Intent to Distribute
*Possession with Intent to Distribute Meth-Amphetamine
*Possession of Alcoholic Beverages in a Motor Vehicle
*Illegal Carrying of a Weapon in the Presence of Controlled Dangerous Substances
Additionally, Herbert faces obstruction of justice charges arising from his actions as it relates to the attempted destruction or dumping of evidence.
Alton Willie Herbert remains incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
