TRAFFIC STOP – DRUG LAW VIOLATIONS

PAINCOURTVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Leon John Chenevert, Jr., 40, of 6877 Highway 996, Belle Rose, LA, on felony drug charges following a traffic stop on LA 70 Thursday morning.
A uniformed patrol officer observed an eastbound vehicle on LA 70 East, commit a traffic violation and initiated a stop of that vehicle. The deputy made contact with the driver now identified as Leon John Chenevert, Jr.
Chenevert was interviewed by the deputy and based on that contact, a K-9 was summoned to the location. The K-9 conducted an open-air sniff of the vehicle which created a positive alert to the presence of controlled dangerous substances.
Deputies conducted a search of the vehicle and seized meth-amphetamine as well as assorted drug paraphernalia.
At some point during the stop, deputies believe that Chenevert attempted to conceal certain evidence.
Based on all of the aforementioned facts, Leon John Chenevert, Jr. was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:
*Speeding
*Illegal Window Tint
*Driving Under Suspension
*Possession of Meth-Amphetamine (2 Counts)
*Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
*Obstruction of Justice
Leon John Chenevert, Jr. was incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
