TRAFFIC STOP – FELON IN POSSESSION OF A FIREARM -DEMETRIUS BROOKS

NAPOLEONVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Demetrius Brooks, 53, of 800 East Winder Road, Thibodaux, La., on felony charges following a traffic stop near LA. 400 on Friday afternoon.

A uniformed patrol deputy observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation and executed a stop of that vehicle. The deputy made contact with the driver and engaged the driver in an officer / violator interview. While conducting that interview, the deputy observed suspicious movement in the front passenger area. The deputy ordered the passenger out of the vehicle. The passenger now identified as Demetrius Brooks advised the deputy he was armed with a handgun. The deputy did seize a handgun from Demetrius Brooks. The deputy conducted a criminal history check of Demetrius Brooks and determined that Brooks was a convicted felon and therefore could not legally possess a firearm.

Demetrius Brooks was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:
*Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
*Illegal Carrying of Weapons

Demetrius Brooks remains incarcerated with a bond set at $150,000.
