TRAFFIC STOP – OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE

BELLE ROSE– Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Jamar Jerard Smith, 36, of 2281 Acosta Road, Donaldsonville, LA, on felony charges arising out of a Thursday evening traffic stop on LA 308 north of Belle Rose.
A uniformed patrol deputy observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation and attempted a stop of that vehicle. The violator engaged the deputy into a pursuit situation that went into Ascension Parish.
The deputy was able to terminate the pursuit and subsequently arrested the driver. During that pursuit, the suspect, now identified as Jamar Jerard Smith, was observed tossing items from the suspect vehicle believed to be suspected marijuana.
A subsequent search of the suspect vehicle resulted in the seizure of additional marijuana.
Jamar Jerard Smith was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail as a fugitive from Assumption Parish. The suspect was then booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:
*Possession of Marijuana
*Obstruction of Justice
*Aggravated Flight from an Officer
*Driving Under a Suspended Driver’s License
*Speeding
Jamar Jerard Smith remains incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
