NAPOLEONVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Dwayne J. Batiste, 30, of 706 Third Street, Apartment 3, Donaldsonville, LA, on felony gun law violations following a Wednesday morning traffic stop north of Napoleonville.
A uniformed patrol deputy on assignment observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation and executed a traffic stop of that vehicle.
Upon coming into contact with the driver now identified as Dwayne J. Batiste, the deputy noted several factors indicating possible driver impairment.
A second patrol deputy assisted with the stop and made contact with a passenger. While speaking to the passenger, the deputy observed a firearm in the vehicle.
During the contact with both occupants, deputies determined that both were previously convicted felons.
The driver, Dwayne J. Batiste, was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:
*Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
*Possession of an Alcoholic Beverage in a Motor Vehicle
*License Plate Light Required
*Driving on Roadway Laned for Traffic
*Driving While Intoxicated – Result – .20g % or Greater
Dwayne J. Batiste was incarcerated pending a bond hearing. During the stop, two large caliber handguns were seized.
The passenger was transported to a hospital due to an illness. Upon release, the passenger will be charged accordingly.
