FINANCIAL CRIMES – IVAN SMITH
NAPOLEOVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Ivan Smith, 37, of 1521 Ames Boulevard, Apt. 12, Marrero, LA, on multiple financial related crimes arriving from a series of incidents beginning in July of 2023.
On July 15, 2023, deputies responded to a resident complaint in Pierre Part in connection to an identity theft. Deputies initiated an investigation and determined that the complaint’s cell phone service had been compromised. In the process, the victims account at home improvement stores in Kenner and Harahan had been illegally used to obtain goods at a value in excess of $9,000. Detectives were able to obtain electronic surveillance footage which led to a series of events that allowed investigators the ability to identify Ivan Smith as a suspect. As law enforcement attempted to stop the vehicle being driven by Smith, he engaged officers in a pursuit situation on the Westbank of Jefferson Parish. Ivan Smith abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot but was apprehended a short time later.
The individual who was identified as Ivan Smith following the foot pursuit and the individual who engaged in the illegal activities at the home improvement stores was determined to be one and the same.
Ivan Smith was arrested and booked into the Jefferson Parish Detention Center on local charges there.
