REPORTED SHOOTING INCIDENT
ORYAN LATHANIEL WATKINS, SHEMAR J. WILLIAMS

NAPOLEONVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrests of Oryan Lathaniel Watkins 18, of 211 Daggs Street, Belle Rose, LA, and Shemar J. Williams, 26, of 169 Daggs Street, Belle Rose, LA, following a reported shooting incident in the 100 block of Marshall Lane off of LA 401 west of Napoleonville.

Deputies were dispatched to the area Tuesday evening and made contact with individuals who indicated they heard several gun shots. Deputies initiated an investigation, and a short time later stopped a vehicle in the area of LA 308 and LA 1008 that deputies believed could have been involved in the shooting incident. Deputies made contact with four occupants of the vehicle. One of these individuals presented a false identification. He was identified as Shemar J. Williams and was detained at this time.

The deputies made contact with a second person identified as Oryan Lathaniel Watkins and attempted a protective pat down search at which time Watkins began to physically resist and attempted to reach into his waistband area several times. A struggle ensued but deputies were able to take Oryan Lathaniel Watkins into custody. Deputies seized a large caliber handgun from Watkins.

Deputies took possession of the suspect vehicle and secured a search warrant. During that search, deputies seized a second large caliber handgun which was reported stolen out of East Baton Rouge Parish.

As a result of continued investigation, deputies recovered evidence consistent with the discharging of firearms on Marshall Lane.

At the conclusion of the investigation, Oryan Lathaniel Watkins was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:

*Illegal Carrying of Weapons
*Resisting an Officer by Force or Violence

Oryan Lathaniel Watkins remains incarcerated pending a bond hearing.

Shemar J. Williams was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:

*Resisting an Officer
*Fugitive Warrant – Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office

Shemar J. Williams was transferred to the custody of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office.
