ILLEGAL POSSESSSION OF A FIREARM – DRUG LAW VIOLATON- ROSHAWN LAMARR LEWIS, CANDON PATRICK JEFFERSON

BAYOU L’OURSE– Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Roshawn Lamarr Lewis, 33, of 3105 Cedarwood Drive, New Iberia, LA, on felony gun law violations arising from a traffic stop on U.S. 90 on Saturday evening.

A uniformed patrol deputy observed a vehicle with an equipment violation and executed a stop of that vehicle. The deputy made contact with the driver, now identified as Candon Patrick Jefferson, 33, of 112 Sparrow Street, New Iberia, LA. The deputy engaged the driver in an officer-initiated interview. The deputy noted an odor of suspected marijuana emitting from the vehicle.

The deputy proceeded to interview the passenger, now identified as Roshawn Lamarr Lewis. During a protective pat down search, a quantity of marijuana was seized off of the person of Lewis.

A K-9 conducted an open-air sniff of the suspect vehicle and alerted to the presence of controlled dangerous substances. During a subsequent search of the vehicle a large caliber handgun and additional marijuana was seized and was attributed to Roshawn Lamarr Lewis. Deputies determined that Lewis was a prior convicted felon and therefore could not legally possess a firearm. Roshawn Lamarr Lewis was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:

*Possession of Marijuana
*Illegal Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon

Roshawn Lamarr Lewis was incarcerated and released on a $25,000 bond.

Candon Patrick Jefferson was cited for:

*Tail Lamps required
*Driving Under a Suspended Driver’s License
*Owner to Secure Registration

Candon Patrick Jefferson was released with a court date.
